West Co Secures Fresh Investment Led by Social Media Pioneers

Biz Stone, one of Twitter’s original founders, and Evan Sharp, who co-founded Pinterest, have successfully attracted new investment for their latest social media venture, West Co.

In November, the duo introduced an exclusive, invitation-only preview of their debut application, Tangle. Recently, the Financial Times uncovered additional insights about the project by analyzing remarks from Stone and Sharp, as well as reviewing regulatory documents and job postings.

Significant Funding and Vision

The startup has reportedly secured $29 million in funding, with Spark Capital heading the seed investment round.

Evan Sharp, who serves as CEO, explained that West Co was inspired by a desire to counteract some of the negative impacts on mental and emotional well-being caused by social media over the past decade and a half. He reflected, “What could I create that might help heal some of the harm we’ve seen to the human mind and heart in recent years?”

Introducing Tangle: A Purpose-Driven App

Their first product, Tangle, encourages users to reflect on their daily intentions by asking, “What’s your intention for today?” The platform enables people to share their aspirations with friends, aiming to help them plan purposefully, document their daily experiences, and recognize the underlying patterns that influence their lives.

Biz Stone noted in his comments to the Financial Times that the app’s features and direction may evolve considerably before it becomes widely available.
