Ethereum (ETH) Sets a New Mainnet High with 2.2 Million Daily Transactions as Average Fee Drops to $0.17
According to Etherscan, Ethereum mainnet logged about 2.2 million daily transactions and an average gas fee of roughly $0.17, far below the May 2022 peak when fees topped $200. Ongoing network upgrades have boosted throughput and reduced costs on the Layer 1.
Token Terminal data shows quarterly deployments on the Ethereum mainnet reaching a record 8.7 million smart contracts deployed in Q4, underscoring continued on-chain activity and Ethereum’s role as a settlement layer amid rising utilization.
In 2025, two notable upgrades shaped the roadmap: the May Pectra upgrade enhances validator performance and staking flexibility, laying groundwork for future scalability features. The early December Fusaka upgrade raised the gas limit from 45 million to 60 million, improving data processing and network efficiency.
