Flow Foundation: Releases Non-Rollback Recovery Plan, Over 99.9% of Accounts Unaffected
According to TechFlow, on December 29, Flow Foundation released the latest recovery plan regarding the security vulnerability that occurred on December 27. The plan was formulated in consultation with bridge operators, exchanges, and infrastructure partners, and its main features are as follows:
- No network rollback: There will be no network reorganization or requirement for partners to replay transactions
- Legitimate user activity preserved: More than 99.9% of accounts are unaffected and will operate normally after the restart
- Targeted repair: Temporary restrictions will only be applied to accounts that received fraudulent tokens
- Transparent handling: Fraudulent tokens will be destroyed through on-chain transactions verified by an independent blockchain forensics firm, ensuring transparency and auditability
The recovery plan will be implemented in four phases:
- Cadence environment recovery goes live, EVM temporarily read-only
- Cadence environment repair completed (approximately 24-48 hours)
- EVM environment repair and reactivation
- Bridges/exchanges resume operations after verifying network stability
This attack resulted in the transfer of approximately $3.9 million in assets. The Flow Foundation is currently working closely with validators and the community to ensure the secure recovery of the network.
