On Tuesday, Google revealed a series of updates for its Google Fi telecom service, introducing features like AI-powered noise cancellation and RCS messaging on the web.

According to the company, phone calls will now benefit from AI-driven audio enhancements that minimize ambient noise and boost voice quality, even when connecting with landlines or older phones. Google notes that this improvement should help conversations sound more natural.

This feature will be enabled by default, though users can choose to disable it if they wish. The AI audio improvements are set to become available next month.

Regarding RCS web messaging, Google is revamping its “Messages for web” platform with a redesigned interface that now fully supports RCS, allowing users to share high-quality photos and videos within chat threads. This update is scheduled for release in December.

Google Fi is also broadening access to its Wi-Fi Auto Connect+ function, which connects users to premium Wi-Fi networks for a more stable connection in busy locations such as malls and airports.

“We’re bringing this feature to millions more places, including major airports like LAX, ORD, and JFK, as well as participating shopping centers and stores,” shared Jane Harnett, Senior Product Manager at Google Fi Wireless, in a blog post. “It activates on its own and comes at no additional charge. In addition, we’re the only leading carrier that automatically encrypts your online activity when you’re on premium Wi-Fi.”

Google says users will recognize a Wi-Fi Auto Connect+ connection when the W+ symbol appears in their status bar.

The company also shared that the Google Fi app will soon feature AI-generated personalized summaries, helping users understand their charges, monthly changes, and how plan modifications might impact future bills.

Alongside these updates, Google Fi is offering a special promotion for new customers: those who bring their own device and sign up for the “Unlimited Essentials” or “Unlimited Plan” will receive 50% off for 15 months.
