On Monday, Brave, the browser developer and alternative to Google Search, revealed a new addition to its AI-driven search tools. The feature, called Ask Brave, is designed to deliver in-depth responses to user queries on specific topics.

According to Brave, this new capability will be available alongside its AI Answers tool, which was launched last year to offer concise summaries in response to search questions. The company noted that users currently receive over 15 million answers daily.

There’s no need to activate a separate mode to access Ask Brave. The search platform will automatically detect the nature of your question and respond appropriately.

To start a search, you can click the ask button next to the Brave search field. Alternatively, you can switch a regular search into an AI-powered one by selecting the Ask tab on the results page. If Brave is set as your default search engine, you can also trigger an Ask Brave query by adding two question marks (“??”) at the end of your search.

“While AI Answers deliver brief overviews, Ask Brave offers more comprehensive explanations, follow-up interactions, and a chat mode enhanced by Deep Research. Most importantly, it provides contextually relevant additions like videos, news, products, businesses, shopping, and more—precisely when and where they’re needed,” stated Brave’s head of search, Josep M. Pujol. “Search enables this, and LLMs connect it all. We expect Ask Brave to produce millions more AI-generated answers each day with this robust blend of search and chat, and we’re eager to introduce even more helpful AI search features for our users.”

The responses from Ask Brave resemble detailed reports similar to those from ChatGPT or Perplexity, often including links, videos, and image galleries. After receiving an answer, users can request the AI chatbot to reformat the response or ask additional questions.

Brave mentioned that it relies on its proprietary API to ensure the accuracy of search results, supplementing with deep research for certain types of queries.

AI-driven Q&A features are increasingly being integrated into search platforms. Google, for instance, has rolled out its AI mode in several languages, including a recent global launch for Spanish. Brave’s approach is comparable but emphasizes privacy, claiming that user chats are encrypted and deleted after 24 hours of inactivity.
