Besent and Musk Stir Power Struggle, U.S. IRS Head to Be Dismissed
According to AXIOS, citing five informed sources, the acting director of the U.S. IRS is about to be replaced. This follows complaints by Treasury Secretary Besent to President Trump, stating that the latest leader of the agency was appointed without his knowledge and at the behest of Musk. Besent believes that Musk bypassed him to make Gary Shapley the interim director of the IRS, which is under the jurisdiction of the Treasury Department. Informed sources say Musk's Office of Government Efficiency pushed the appointment through White House channels without seeking Besent's opinion or consent.
