Russia's new energy policy will ban cryptocurrency mining in 13 regions
On November 20, the Russian Government's Electricity Development Committee approved on Monday measures to limit cryptocurrency mining. The measures will take effect on December 1, with subsequent enforcement periods from November 15 to March 15 each year until 2031.
Deputy Minister of Energy Evgeny Grabchak confirmed this decision, which targets thirteen regions including Irkutsk, Buryatia and Transbaikal but excluding Moscow. The approval to extend the implementation period is intended to manage peak electricity demand and address energy shortages. Other affected areas include Karachay-Cherkessia, Kabardino-Balkaria, Donetsk People's Republic and Lugansk People's Republic.
