All three major U.S. stock indices closed sharply lower
U.S. stocks opened higher and lower, with all three major indexes closing sharply lower. The Nasdaq fell 2.3 per cent, the S&P 500 lost 1.37 per cent and the Dow fell 1.21 per cent. The Philadelphia Semiconductor Index fell more than 7 per cent.
