The "Buy Bitcoin" sign behind Yellen was sold at an auction for about one million dollars
PANews reported on April 25th that according to Bloomberg, a yellow notebook hastily scribbled with "Buy Bitcoin" was sold at an auction for a high price of $1.027 million. In 2017, during the congressional hearing attended by then Federal Reserve Chair Janet Yellen, an intern quickly raised this hastily made sign. This sign quickly became a rallying cry for a small but rapidly growing group of cryptocurrency developers and investors, and is now even more so a symbol of the revival of cryptocurrencies. According to the auction site Scare City, the winner of this auction was an anonymous buyer who bought it for 16 bitcoins. During the final few minutes of bidding due to an error, the bid once showed as $6.4 million but was later determined to be misoperation and lowered.
The sign was sold by Christian Langalis when he was a 22-year-old intern at Cato Institute's libertarian think tank; he quickly wrote down this message while Yellen attended House Financial Services Committee hearing in July 2017. After being captured on TV advertising, Langalis was immediately asked to leave the venue. In previous interviews, Langalis said that he plans to use these proceeds to fund a bitcoin software project.
