Vitalik: The confidence in the concept of "simplifying L1 even at the expense of a more complex L2" has decreased threefold
Ethereum founder Vitalik Buterin stated on social media that, honestly, compared to five years ago, his confidence in the concept of "simplifying L1 even at the expense of a more complex L2" has decreased threefold. The problem lies in balancing between the risk of errors in L1 and L2; it's unclear whether the latter is better. If an L1 consensus failure occurs, core developers will be busy for a day but everything will eventually return to normal. However, if an error occurs with L2, people could permanently lose a large amount of funds. Therefore, I believe it's actually worth adding some fairly complex features to L1 to alleviate the code burden on L2 and make it relatively simple.
