Analyst: Spot Bitcoin ETF Approval May Facilitate Short Positions for Traditional Market Participants
Cryptocurrency derivatives trader Gordon Grant suggests that the approval of a spot Bitcoin ETF could make it easier for traditional market participants to engage in short selling. Shorting spot Bitcoin ETFs might lead to an increase in the BTC supply in the spot market, putting downward pressure on Bitcoin prices. However, Grant notes that borrowing and shorting stocks are normal occurrences in healthy, well-functioning asset markets. He states, "This is crucial for complementary considerations such as options trading, structured products, directional leverage, and more sophisticated instruments."
